A free field activity for noticing living systems differently
Ecological Patterns Bingo is a self-guided exercise that invites you to go outside and look at nature with fresh attention.
It is a simple, light-touch way to begin engaging with Nature’s Playbook. You do not need specialist ecological knowledge, a workshop, or a remote wilderness. You can use the card in a park, garden, woodland, street verge, near a pond, around a street tree, or anywhere natural life is present.
The aim is not to collect objects or find “correct” answers. The aim is to slow down, observe carefully, and begin noticing patterns in living systems: interdependence, recovery, stress, support, flow, scarcity, growth, decay, boundaries, redundancy, and change.
The card can be used in workshops, teaching sessions, team activities, or on your own at home. You might photograph what you find, sketch it, discuss it with others, or simply make a mental note. What matters is your ability to notice, interpret, and explain the pattern you see.
Ecological Patterns Bingo helps bridge the gap between seeing nature as something beautiful in the background and recognising living systems as intelligent, dynamic, and full of patterns that can help us think differently about business, organisations, and the circular economy.
