Nature’s Playbook is an interactive learning and innovation tool for circular economy business innovation, inspired by nature and living systems. The tool emerged from the doctoral research of Dr Emma Fromberg and is made available with support from King’s College London Centre for Sustainable Business. It supports professionals in exploring sustainability challenges through a systems-oriented and regenerative lens.
Nature’s Playbook is designed to help business professionals intentionally engage with complex and non-linear ideas drawn from nature in order to generate new perspectives and approaches to circular economy challenges. The tool is explicitly built for application in real organisational contexts and is typically used to explore concrete business cases, strategic questions, or innovation challenges.
The tool is built on four years of doctoral research by Dr Emma Fromberg, during which the concepts were developed, co-created, and tested with business professionals. This research shows that drawing on ecological insights can support ways of thinking about a circular economy that move beyond mainstream, linear assumptions and open up more systemic and regenerative possibilities.
Nature’s Playbook does not offer frameworks, checklists, or prescriptive solutions. Instead, it works with metaphors and principles from living systems to help users reflect on how they understand organisations, value, and change. By focusing on perspective rather than optimisation, the tool creates space for deeper questioning, creative exploration, and alternative ways of imagining circular and regenerative business practices.
